DuPont China R&D Center Enhances Lab Capabilities to Support Customers with Chemical Mechanical Planarization (CMP) Processes

Technical Service Lab Will Support Semiconductor Customers in Production Process Optimization

SHANGHAI - November 02, 2018

DuPont Electronics & Imaging today announced an addition to its China Research & Development Center (CTC) in Shanghai to support customers using its chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) materials in semiconductor fabrication. The lab expansion will be used to provide timely service to local customers such as CMP pad analysis to help them optimize their production processes and test new materials.

"We're pleased to be able to offer these capabilities through the Shanghai site and bring our technology experience in support of the local market," said Dennis Chen, South Asia business director, CMP Technologies, DuPont Electronics & Imaging. "Our CMP Technologies business has demonstrated this model of technical service labs in the US, Taiwan and Korea, and this new addition in Shanghai is the right choice to support our growing customers in China."

DuPont Electronics & Imaging has developed sophisticated methodologies for pad analysis, a service frequently requested by customers in the region. These systematic processes include surface texture analysis and conditioner characterization, properties that can have critical impact on the CMP process, including slurry flow, planarization efficiency, defectivity or pad lifetime. Insights from these tests can help customers understand the impact of their process setup on CMP performance and then optimize their process for performance and improved cost of ownership.

"Our field service and quality engineering teams bring tremendous value to our customers across China, and having access to a local lab will give them even greater effectiveness," said Jeffery Chang, China business director, CMP Technologies, DuPont Electronics & Imaging. "Alongside the lab equipment and methodologies, we've also invested in our people with a strong training program over the past year."

Equipment for the lab began arriving in September, and the team is currently completing setup and acceptance testing, with operations expected to begin in January 2019. In the meantime, customers in China will continued to be supported by local teams and the business' global lab facilities.

The CMP Technologies business is a global leader in materials for chemical mechanical planarization for the semiconductor device fabrication market. CMP Technologies is one of the business units brought into DuPont Electronics & Imaging as a result of the 2017 merger of Dow and DuPont.

DuPont Electronics & Imaging is adding lab capabilities to support customers with chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) processes at the DuPont China Research & Development Center (CTC) in Shanghai.
