Dow Receives 2016 Taiwan National Occupational Safety and Health Award

HSINCHU, Taiwan - November 08, 2016

Dow Electronic Materials, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW), was designated as a benchmarking enterprise and awarded the 2016 Taiwan National Occupational Safety and Health Award by the Ministry of Labor for its Asia CMP Manufacturing and Technical Center (legal entity name: Rohm and Haas Electronic Materials Asia Pacific Co., Ltd.), affirming Dow's outstanding performance in occupational safety and in creating a healthy workplace.

Dow’s Asia CMP Manufacturing and Technical Center produces materials for chemical mechanical planarization (CMP), which are used in semiconductor manufacturing. In June, the business broke ground on an expansion project to increase the site’s capacity and capabilities. Dow has a nearly 50-year history of growth in Taiwan, during which time it has practiced sustainable development, establishing an ideal role model for sustainable operations in Taiwan.

On September 30, 2016, Dow’s CMP Center in Hsinchu reached a total of 2,453 occupational hazard-free days, equivalent to 3.6 million working hours, marking a significant milestone in the implementation of occupational safety. Site leaders take preventative measures against accidents and injuries by organizing safety sharing sessions for all employees before starting every safety meeting. This activity encourages employees to observe on-site safety and to report any industrial safety-related opportunities.
